Review
The end of 2008 marked the end of a busy year for BirdPen, and we were there for the final celebration on December 19th at the Fleche D'Or! Mike Bird and Dave Pen were just finishing up the recording of their first album with a live concert in Paris (their "second home"). In store for us: ambitious alternative rock full of elaborate electro sounds, with rythms so deep and dark -you know it's BirdPen. The intensity that these night birds put in their music transformed the Flèche d'Or into a dark freaky forest lit by a full moon! Bewitching sensation... Birdpen's music is truly gripping.

Upcoming concerts :
April 1st : La Luciole - Alençon
April 2nd : Nouveau Casino - Paris

Album release : April 23rd (in France)
Artist info

Birdpen

Birdpen are Mike Bird, Dave Pen (Archive) and James Livingston Seagull. They formed in 2004 and refuse to say where they actually come from, because what is the point and what difference, no really, does it make to whether you like their music or not? They refer to home as The Village. Do they mean the ‘global village’, Village of the Damned or something else? Who knows, they won’t reveal.

The band released three EP’s, 1 in 54, Be Yourself and Fake Kid between 2004 and 2006, and in that time they’ve been wearing the black Birdpen uniform and thrilling crowds across the UK and Europe with their 21st century Doom Groove show. In 2007 Mike and Dave were asked to contribute songs to the Archive album Lights, and Dave hooked up with the Archive collective to tour it, a moment captured on Live at the Zenith, which Rolling Stone Europe describes as the best live album ever.
Venue

Flèche d'Or

In the very heart of the Saint Blaise area, la Flèche d’Or is one of the most wicked venues in town. Come in a crazy post-industrial atmosphere to enjoy baroque pop, noise-rock or any-kind-of-rock concerts ! Cool people, cool sounds and cool stage, what else ? A free wi-fi access and an incredible glass-covered restaurant with a direct sight on the old railways… Sweet !
