Heading from Brighton, England, Electrelane is an all-female rock band, often compared to the likes of Stereolab. Indeed, their 2001 debut Rock It to the Moon, issued on the band's own Let's Rock! imprint, owed much to krautrock, with its sophisticated, droning instrumentals and near-instrumentals.

Band leader Verity Sussmann took a short break after this album to finish her university degree.Electrelane's 2004 sophomore album, The Power Out, was a more song-oriented affair, sporting more relevant lyrics and only two instrumentals. It was their first album for the hyper-indie Too Pure label, once home to some of Electrelane's stylistic forerunners. The group wasn't very satisfied with this more accessible album, and decided to ask Steve Albini to produce their next album in a different fashion.

Axes, Electrelane's third LP, was released in May 2005, and generally recorded while the girls were playing live. It was generally much unlike their short flirt with improved accessiblity, as the girls were experimenting with long, droning krautrock soundscapes again. The band's fourth album, No Shouts, No Calls was released in April 2007. The band toured the record during the summer and autumn of that year. In November 2007, it was announced that Electrelane would be entering an indefinite hiatus following the tour's final date in Brighton on 1 December 2007.
They're touring again in 2011 and coming to the festival La Route du Rock in Saint-Malo.
