Les Nuits de l'Alligator, music festival originated by the Maroquinerie team in Paris is a huge festival spanning a dozen french cities.

Since 2005, the festival is both thematic and eclectic. A contradiction, you say? Not really: the programmingis all about the blues and its bad(ass) roots & weeds that created the original seen on the shores of the Mississippi river and that continue to make it thrive.

The Agitator

The Agitator s music hits you hard - stripped down, bare and bullish, an apt soundtrack for this coming age of austerity. A return to music s purest, primal elements, voice & rhythm, though excitingly innovative their sound contains classic ingredients harking back to the fifties, and even the depression-era thirties. Originally I wanted a new kind of music, nothing more than banging, stamping, clapping and vocals, something anyone could do anywhere on a march, at a protest. But then it grew. We added a drum-kit, and that sounded great, then we went in the studio, and being a massive Public Enemy / NWA fan, from when Hip-Hop had some social concern, we tried that, and suddenly all the power we were looking for exploded out at us.

This rabble-rousing, Brighton-based act feature Derek Meins on Vocals, accompanied by Robert Dylan Thomas on Drums. Derek s force-of-nature voice is tirelessly dedicated to shaking us out of our complacency, standing up for the powerless, and tackling the mess the world has become. His rallying-call songs unashamedly tackle political themes but aim to inspire and energise rather than arrogantly dictate some dubious, utopian five-year-plan. We all know the financiers went mad and were allowed to do so by the incompetent politicians, but what really needs to be stated at this point, loudly and clearly, is that we - the many, not just the few - can actually do something about it, if we want to!

Derek, 23, first signed to Rough Trade at the tender age of fourteen with his Berwick-upon-Tweed schoolboy band, Eastern Lane. They released two albums on RT before going their separate ways. Derek s Scottish burr was next heard on his 2008 solo album, The Famous Poet Derek Meins . Robert Dylan Thomas is already well-known and highly-regarded for his drumming with The Maccabees on their first album, Colour It In. This recession brought everything to a head for me The blatancy of social injustice, the immense silent suffering behind the unemployment figures, the astonishing greed of the wealthy, and the unbelievable stupidity and weakness of our politicians. I felt something had to be done and I couldn t just carry on sitting round writing arty songs hoping somebody else would do it. That s what The Agitator is One man s small attempt to do something about it all. Loudly! more>>>

But you can also chill out at the bar / restaurant or at the covered terrace, combining a musical evening with gastronomy ! This truly is the finest of the Parisian concert scene, and the staff has always welcomed us with open arms... Great sound, lighting, atmosphere and musical selection. Word.
