The China Club welcomed Okou for a live set that felt perfect in the velvety atmosphere of the cozy jazz club, full of warmth and sophistication. Accompanied by a chorist and a bassist, Tatiana and Gilbert gave a magical and captivating performance that charmed the audience. The folk/soul melodies inspired by the duo's worldly experiences were lifted by lyrics full of sincerity and humor. Heads were boppin' all night long and new friends left the club still singing the encore song. great evening!

Okou
Okou was born from the chance (magical?) meeting between a singer, Tatiana Heintz, and Gilbert Trefzger, musician/composer. Originally from the Ivory Coast, Tatiana traveled all across Africa's west coast to Europe, finally ending up in London. It's there that she would collaborate with artists such as Keziah Jones, Mick Jagger, Nuspirit Helsinki or Jamie Lidell. Then came the meeting with Gilbert, swiss musician with Egyptian roots. Master of many instruments, Gilbert has never stuck to just one musical style. His compositions on the banjo, guitar and oriental luth got him much praise and he collaborated with artists such as Nitin Sawhney, Roy Ellis, Thomas D. Gilbert has also worked on a number of movie soundtracks... It's easy to understand why Okou's music is full of worldly influences... a kind of world folk tainted with soul.
Une world folk teintée de soul. more>>> - Label

China Club

Recently totally redone, the China Club is a real trip to post-colonial Asia. The warmth and sophistication is all due to the great decor: high ceilings, red velvety walls, club couches and sofas, dark ebony furniture... The atmosphere is low key, elegant and refined, perfect for the restaurant (exotic menu), cocktail time at the bar, smoke room, or of course the downstairs lounge & jazz club.
