Review

These crazy mustache & bikini wearing Monotonix are direct descendants from the punk rock/garage classic performers. Worthy heir of Iggy Pop, Ami Shalev (lead singer) gives everything he's got in a show that's close (too close!) to the audience. They played on the "beach", at Belfort... and the sand, the sweat, the heavy guitar riffs and the underlying rhythms were the perfect backdrop for Ami's stunts at 15ft feet in the air above hyped up fans.
Monotonix is our definite fav and this year's revelation from (the 21st) Eurockeennes.festival in France.

Monotonix

Monotonix are a garage rock band from Tel Aviv, Israel. They released their debut EP in 2008 and have toured the United States and Europe, including notable appearances at SXSW. These tours furthered their reputation as a band whose shows are not watched, but experienced. Monotonix have become known for setting themselves and their equipment on fire, stealing drinks from audience members to pour on themselves, and turning their shows into unabashed, frenzied dance parties. In 2007, the band recorded their first EP, Body Language, with Tim Green of the Fucking Champs. In 2008, the band signed to Drag City, where they have released Body Language, and have continued their all-year touring.

Monotonix est un groupe de garage rock formé à  Tel Aviv. Depuis leur premier EP sorti en 2008, ils n ont pas arrêté de parcourir les Etats-Unis et l Europe, avec notamment une performance mémorable au SXSW. Pendant leurs concerts, les 3 membres de Monotonix se déchainent, mettant le feu à  leur équipement, subtilisant de l alcool au public pour s en asperger. Leurs shows sont de véritables westerns psychédéliques et frénétiques, à  expérimenter plus qu à  simplement voir. Drag City is a Chicago-based independent record label. It was established with a Royal Trux release in 1989 in Chicago, Illinois by Dan Koretzky and Dan Osborn.
Drag City specializes in experimental indie rock acts. Among the bands that have released material on Drag City are Pavement, Royal Trux, Cynthia Dall, Faun Fables, Scott Walker, Bill Callahan, Will Oldham, Weird War, Jim O'Rourke, Loose Fur, Scout Niblett, David Grubbs, U.S. Maple, Alasdair Roberts, Neil Michael Hagerty, The Howling Hex, Ghost, Flying Saucer Attack, Movietone, The Fucking Champs, Papa M, Pearls and Brass, White Magic, The Renderers, Espers, Silver Jews, Monotonix, Joanna Newsom, Nig-Heist, Michael Yonkers, The Red Krayola and Edith Frost. In recent years, they have expanded their catalog to include alternative comedy releases, with recent outputs from Fred Armisen and Neil Hamburger, among others, and reissues, notably by Gary Higgins and Death.
Drag City's first release, 'DC1', was the single 'Hero Zero' by Royal Trux.
Several Drag City albums have been licensed to Domino Records for British release.

Eurockeennes de Belfort

One of the largest summer rendez-vous in France, where mainstream artists and emerging bands clash onstage. Still going strong after more than 20 years! The 2009 edition was held on July 3d, 4th and 5th.
The concert has 5 stages, out of which Grandcrew filmed shows at "the loggia" (sweet) and "the beach" (so sweet).
