Review

Quite an impressive line of people were queing on the river bank of the Seine, across from the National Library, to hear Mélanie Pain play in a small floating-concert venue. The French songwriter did not disappoint! Her pop/fold melodies ravished the crowd. Mélanie sings life as she sees it, with a soft, melodic and sincere touch: the song Bruises is the best example of this, expressing feelings of love in an everyday setting.

During her university years in the south of France town of Aix-en-Provence, Mélanie prepared her political science diploma to the sound of PJ Harvey, The Pixies, Sonic Youth, Nick Drake, ... Freshly rrived in Paris, she started working for a design agency and singing on the side/ during the evenings in a number of electro and pop ensembles. Mélanie finally found her vocal calling thanks to the compositions of Villeneuve and her first release on Pias in Setember 2004.
Sweet and moving, between Astrud Gilberto and Kim Deal, Mélanie gets also gets noticed on a few tracks by M83 and other projects of the Gooom label.
When Marc Colling and Olivier Libaux talk to her about the Nouvelle Vague project, Mélanie of course accepted! Her cover of Tinted Love with Villeneuve had already given her the opportunity to interpret classic songs from another generation, with her soft and sensual style.
