Review

Mansfield.Tya brings us very low and gets us very high. Deep emotions overwhelm the band onstage who takes us on an adventure from cool folk to heavy, almost metallic sounds. 2 girls with character give it to us!

Definitely check out the lead singer's other side projects, just as crazy.

Artist

Mansfield.Tya

picture

French duo from Nantes that started in 2002, Mansfield. TYA is composed of Julia Lanoà« (guitar, viocals, piano) and Carla Pallone (violin, piano, harmonium, vocals). Their name comes from a reference to June Mansfield, the wife of Henry Miller and the band's first album is naturally called "June", released in October 2005. The atmosphere that comes out of their music is often quite dark, melancholic, sometimes even raging... reminding us as much of Cat Power than Shannon Wright or even Tom Waits. Too often categorized as "new french" music, Mansfield.TYA definitely has influences that span large & wide, much more than your typical "french music". Whether in English or French, the duo has some powerful & elaborate lyrics, and explore unique melodic territories where other french bands don't usually wander.
