Koudlam (Pan European Recording) is the French symphonic composer. True. This guy is great, dark and captivating. At Grandcrew.com, we are big fans since his beginnings. We shot a video of him last year during the Pan European Recording Festival @ Point Ephemere but we messed up the sound. How frustrating this was. Since then, we've banished the guy who did that ;)
Below a Koudlam interview to repare the unforgivable and rookie mistake !

If you want to win the Sampler "See you All" (x10)..just leave a comment at the end of the interview !!

What part of the music process do you enjoy the most ?

When a new song is revealed to my mind, it’s like discovering I got a new magic skill.

What's the most personal song you play?
Don t know

What's the first memory you have of making music ?

I learned music when I was little. My first instrument was a saxophone. I had to play a “happy birthday” at all the family birthdays. It was disgusting. My teacher was like a Vietnam veteran, very rude, I did cry very often at his military training. I think he deserves to be destroyed in a street fight but in the same time I have to say that I own him my classical studies. If he would have been a “jazzman” it would have been a disaster for my musical formation. But it ‘s a complet different story than when I started to create music.

Describe a moment when you heard some music that blew your mind ?

As I m answering now, I m listening to Underground Resistance, the 012, Fuel For the Fire- Attend the Riot, it’s blowing my mind, remembering to myself old rave memories when I was just a kid dancing in the fire.

Have you ever been obsessed with an artist? Why ?

Maybe by the Doors when I was 13 years old. Listening to their music helped me to see my dreams clearly, and I guess that’s one of the reason I m answering to you right now.
Today I m obsessed by good rock climbers. I love biographies of that guys. They often die young, at the best of their strength. A guy like Wolfgang Güllich was the first to climb such degrees of difficulties, he did many solos (no rope) that nobody made before him, but he died in a car crash, at the time he was working on the movie cliffanger. What a strange world, isn’t it?
I guess we can call an artist anyone who go far where the others haven’t been able to go, and who think that doing it with style is more important than the pure performance.

Why is music important for you ?
Music is something that talks directly with the heart of the soul, I guess that s why. It’s also the thing I do the best, after making love of course.

What was the most memorable gig you played?

A gig on the pyramid of the sun, at teotihuacan, a few years ago.

What bands are you listening to to nowdays ?
Mostly The Pogues & Underground Resistance. I love bagpipe music too.
