About Roots Manuva
Bio:
Roots Manuva is an extraterrestrial in the UK music scene. His unique hip hop is full of so many influences: a little dub, some electro beats, a good amount of Dance Hall, a serious dose of hip hop and especially a personal delirious touch of humor. Add to this the fact that Rodney Smith (his name in real life) produces the majority of his tracks (often under aliases such as Lord Gosh or Smythe) ... respect! Raised in southern London by parents of Jamaiacan origins, he first made the headlines in 1999 with his LP "Brand New Second Hand" and made it big in 2001 with a second album that was hailed by the musical press: "Run Come And Save Me". The physically imposing MC with a "so british" look is signed to Big Dada Records (the hip hop spinoff of Ninja Tune) and has collaborated with the likes of Mr. Scruff, Coldcut and The Herbaliser. Wicked.
Dans le paysage musical anglais, Roots Manuva fait office d’extraterrestre. Son hiphop est unique et imprégné d’influences diverses : un peu de dub, quelques beats électro, pas mal de Dance Hall, beaucoup de hiphop et surtout une touche perso déjantée et toujours pleine d’humour. A cela il faut ajouter que Rodney Smith (de son vrai nom) produit la grande majorité de ses titres (là encore sous d’autres pseudo comme Lord Gosh ou Smythe), ça impose le respect. Cet anglais du sud de Londres de parents d’origines jamaïquaines s’est fait connaître en 1999 avec un premier LP (Brand New second hand) et surtout reconnaître en 2001 avec un second album salué par la critique : Run come save me. Le MC au physique imposant et à l’accoutrement so british est signé chez Big Dada (la branche hiphop de <a href="http://www.ninjatune.net" target="_blank">Ninja Tune</a>) et a collaboré entre autre avec Mr Scruff, Coldcut ou encore The Herbaliser.
